To survive, Charlene must accept that her whole life was a lie.
Fiercely independent, lifelong nomad, Charlene Bailey, thought witnessing a woman murder her dad was the worst moment of her life. Until the police dropped the bombshell that the man she’d known as her father wasn’t related to her at all. Worse still, they believed she was a kidnap victim.
One minute Marshall Crow was a special warfare combatant, executing risky missions in treacherous environments. Next minute his body packed in, he was booted out of the navy, and he was taking useless tourists on fishing charters in Key West. And hating every minute.
Until Charlene, a mysterious beauty crippled with secrets, enlists him to smuggle her into Havana, Cuba. Marshall knows it’s a bad idea, but he can’t refuse the gorgeous, albeit stubborn wildcat.
When her reckless quest for answers results in her kidnapping, Marshall bulldozes every enemy to save her. But what he never expected was for Charlene to save him.

She greeted him with hands on hips and a crease in her brow. A silver cross, nestled in the dip of her throat, glinted red from Pirate Cove’s tacky neon sign. “Is that the way you settle all your disputes? With your fists?”
“Only with those three. They don’t listen to reasoning.”
“Reasoning.” She huffed. “Is that what you call it?’
He narrowed his gaze at her. “What would you call it?”
“Well . . .” Her forthrightness was a refreshing change, yet it still caught him unawares. “I was actually doing you a favor.”
“Really?” It was sarcasm rather that a question.
“When you see their boat, you’ll be thanking me.”
“And what will I do when I see your boat, Mr.—”
“Crow. Marshall Crow.” He held his hand forward. “And you are?”
She hesitated for a little too long, and he couldn’t decide if she was nervous about giving her name or touching his hand. But when her eyes met his and he saw both the gold flecks in her caramel irises and the determination in her glare, he decided it was neither.
There was something else going on behind the scenes. Which was blatantly obvious given that she wanted to do a covert run to Cuba.
“Charlene Bailey.” Her grip was firm enough to show that she wasn’t a pushover.
“So, Charlene, I understand you need to get to Cuba.”
She nodded. “Fast.”
“I can do fast. But I have to know why you didn’t approach me in the first place, rather than those three goons?”
She hesitated, seemingly stewing on her answer. “You looked too intelligent.”
He did a double take, and his brows shot up. “And that’s a bad thing?”
She glanced about, and her wavy brown hair fell around her bare shoulders. “It is . . . if you plan on asking too many questions.”
Nicely played. In one sentence she’d both flattered him and told him to keep his nose out of her business.

"The Bourne Identity meets Mission Impossible. This book was definitely action packed with refreshing dialogue. And filled with surprises and suspense. The plot was very unique. Talbot also has a distinctive way with both narrative buildup and character development. Although her main characters start from a base of strength, they appear to grow and change from their experiences. There is a certain synergy between the main characters that helps move the story forward. In addition, descriptions of places and references to historical events were used wisely. I read this book in one day as I could hardly put it down." Kindle Cust
