As an avid scuba diver and history buff, I had long dreamed of visiting the Solomon Islands - a destination rich with World War II relics and stories waiting to be explored. In 2010, my family and I finally had the opportunity to make this bucket list trip a reality.
The highlights of our diving adventure were two very different WWII wreck sites that provided unparalleled glimpses into the region's past. My favorite dive was to the crash site of a WWII dive bomber, whose pilot and radio gunner miraculously survived their harrowing ordeal. Over 50 years later, the pilot, Jim Dougherty, returned to the wreck site, no doubt reflecting on that fateful day. This poignant story of perseverance and resilience struck a deep chord, inspiring me to weave similar themes of adventure, danger, and the triumph of the human spirit into the pages of my action-packed romantic suspense novel, Treasured Dreams.
Whether exploring the sunken ships and planes of Iron Bottom Sound or uncovering the relics of war in a remote jungle museum, our scuba diving adventure in the Solomon Islands ignited my imagination and passion for storytelling. The experiences I had there are woven throughout the pages of Treasured Dreams, providing an authentic backdrop for my characters' own battles, both internal and external. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in this incredible piece of history - it has truly shaped me as both a writer and explorer of the world.
